Homer wants to dedicate this launch to “the person who first inspired us: our teacher, Miss Riley.”

The crowd applauds.

“And finally,” says Homer, “I’d like to dedicate this rocket to my mom and to… my dad.”

John Hickam steps out of the crowd. The townspeople applaud. Elsie kisses John.

Homer walks up to his dad. He smiles.

“You know, it won’t fly unless somebody pushes the button,” says Homer. “It’s yours if you want it.”

John walks with Homer up to the launch area.
