Homer is awakened by his alarm clock.
Fully dressed in mining gear, he ties his work boots.
Homer unwraps his mining helmet, which was placed next to his autographed picture of Wernher von Braun.
Homer puts on his helmet and looks in the mirror.
At the mine head, the afternoon shift exits the elevator. Homer and the other hoot-owl shift miners pass through their ranks.
Homer looks at the other miners in the elevator, then turns to face the front of the elevator cage. The elevator doors close.
Homer glances up at the open top of the elevator cage. Near the winch, he sees Sputnik sail silently through the sky.
