GUEST: Bill Stine, Former CEO, Estes Rockets
“What, kind of like a parakeet?” asks Roy Lee.
Homer starts the countdown.
“Ready?” asks Homer.
In the mine office, John Hickam is meeting with mining executives from Ohio.
“Well, Youngstown’s always been fair, Otis,” says John, “but you’re askin’ me to lay off damn near half the town.”
“The mine is just not producin ‘the way it was ten years ago, John,” says one of the executives. “We’re payin’ the same labor for half the tonnage.”
“What if we were to open up a new shaft?” asks John. “That coal is down there, Otis. You just let me go after it.”
“The Coalwood mine has given out, Mr. Hickam,” says another executive.
“Move!” says Homer, as the boys hunker down behind a rusty iron hopper.
“Ten. Nine. Eight. Seven. Six. Five. Four. Three. Two–” The boys see the rocket take off and fly horizontally across the field.
“Holy sh-t, it’s headed for the mine!” says Roy Lee.
