\nA recruiter from Virginia Tech shakes Homer’s hand.<\/p>\n

“We got the best science program in the state!” says the recruiter.<\/p>\n

A tall man with a German accent shakes his hand. “Congratulations, son,” says the man. “Good luck to you.” He passes into the crowd.<\/p>\n

“What did he say to you?” a reporter asks Homer.<\/p>\n

“What did who say?” says Homer, puzzled.<\/p>\n

“Von Braun!” says the reporter. “That was Wernher von Braun! You just shook his hand!” Homer turns around but can’t see von Braun anywhere.<\/p>\n

At the bus depot back in West Virginia, Elsie greets Homer.<\/p>\n

“Homer, I’m so proud of you!” says Elsie.<\/p>\n

“Thanks, Mom,” says Homer, looking around.<\/p>\n

“He’s not here, hon,” says Elsie, quietly.<\/p>\n
