John Hickam looks at Elsie, and smiles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Later, at the Union Hall, Jake Mosby is talking with John about the strike settlement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“I guess we all know this isn’t gonna fix things, at least, not for long,” says Jake. John looks around.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We know you did what you could for us,” says Jake and shakes John’s hand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Jake,” says John, returning the handshake.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Thanks,” says Jake.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

John turns towards Leon Bolden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Leon,” says John.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Yes, John?” asks Leon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

John leans in and says in a low voice, “Don’t you have some work to do?” Bolden smiles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A new tapered bore nozzle is getting cut on the lathe. Time passes, and it becomes a shiny de Laval nozzle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At a pay phone in the company store, the Rocket Boys, Mr. Bolden, Mr. Dantzler, and many townspeople surround Elsie, who is talking to Homer on a pay phone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“It’s packed and on its way. Be at the bus station, eight AM” says Elsie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Okay, Mom, but how did you–?” begins Homer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Your father,” says Elsie. “It was your father.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Give ’em hell, Homer!” says Mr. Dantzler. The townspeople yell and clap.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Good luck, sweetie,” says Elsie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
