“Well, it–” begins Homer, but Roy Lee pulls him ahead to talk privately.
“That thing had better fly,” says Roy Lee, “or you can kiss your chances of losin’ your virginity good-bye.”
Jim Hickam walks by with a football.
“Hey, couldn’t you guys find somethin’ better to do?” asks Homer.
“Hey, listen,” replies one of the football players. “There’s no practice on Saturdays. You little sisters are the only entertainment in town.
“Yeah, we were gonna drive over to War,” says Jim, “but then we thought – hey! Let’s go see Homer blow himself up.”
“That’s real funny, Jim,” says Homer.
Homer mounts a match to a Meccano kit and a skate wheel. The match will strike against sandpaper when the cord is pulled. The boys run back to the blockhouse.
“Hey, Homer, come on. We don’t got all day!” says Jim.
“Shut up, Jim,” says Homer.
“Everything ready?” asks O’Dell.
“Wait,” says Homer, running off toward the audience.
“What do you mean, wait?” asks Roy Lee. “Where you goin’?”
Homer runs up to Dorothy and says something quietly to her.
