The boys mix the alcohol and solid chemicals into a paste, and pack it into another Auk rocket.
Later, Miss Riley and the boys pull up in her car to Cape Coalwood. Already, a sizeable crowd of kids are standing around, waiting to watch a launch.
“Great,” says Homer.
“How’d they find out about it?” asks O’Dell.
“My brother,” says Homer. They get out of the car and start unloading their equipment.
“We poop out this time,” says Roy Lee, “the whole county’s gonna be laughin’ at us.”
“Who cares what any of them think?” asks Quentin.
“Easy for you to say, Quentin,” replies Roy Lee. “You’re used to being made fun of.”
“All right now,” says Miss Riley. “Quentin’s right, y’all.” She turns to Homer.
“Homer, you don’t have to prove anything to anybody,” says Miss Riley. “You remember that. Now go launch yourself a rocket!” She closes the trunk of her car.
Homer heads across the field. Dorothy calls to him.
“Homer!” says Dorothy.
“Hello, Dorothy,” replies Homer.
“Is that thing really gonna fly?” asks Dorothy.
